
- Extra food and water (especially water; if you get lost, you can survive without food for a lot longer than you can without water!)
- Sunglasses
- A pocket knife/multi-tool
- Fire-starter candle
- First Aid kit
- Matches in a waterproof container (gotta light that candle with something, right?)
- Extra clothing (either for unplanned swimming ventures or to layer in changing weather)
- Flashlight (with working batteries, of course)
- A current map of the area you're hiking
- A compass
- Sunscreen
- Bug repellent
- Tissues
- Your wallet (never leave valuables in your vehicle!)
- Cell phone (keep it turned off so you can enjoy the hike, but be assured it could come in handy, especially if it's GPS enabled!)
