Workerette.com would like to congratulate the working moms named as recipients of Working Mother magazine's Entrepreneur Mom Awards for 2007. I personally was incredibly excited to see the founder of one of my favorite educational companies, Rachel de Azevedo Coleman (the cofounder of Two Little Hands Productions), named as one of this year's winning moms. I've been familiar with Two Little Hands for years because of their Signing Time videos and companion CDs - my daughter and I are huge fans and feel as though we've watched Rachel's daughter Leah (and cousin Alex) grow up right along with our family.
Many Workerettes are wondering these days exactly what it would take to step out of the company mold and become your own boss. Depending on what your ideas, skill set, plans and dreams are, it can take a little or a lot. Only a good business plan and some thoughtful preparation can tell you for sure, but these ladies are a complete inspiration to anyone who is considering heading out on a limb and hanging out a shingle as an entrepreneur. These gals started their businesses with anywhere from $8,000 from a savings account to a $75,000 home loan, depending on the scope of their business plan. You could be the next one to start out on a wing and a prayer, a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or investments from a special business angel.
Here are some role models to get your engine started:
- Rachel de Azevedo Coleman: Two Little Hands Productions
- Alexandra Wrage: TRACE International, Inc.
- Terri Alpert: Professional Cutlery Direct LLC
Go learn more about their companies and start plotting your pathway to the stars!
