- Have a newborn? Stage a diaper changing center (two if you have a two-story home) so that you have diapers, wipes, and a changing pad handy in the most used rooms of your house.
- Bottlefeeding? If you're using powder formula, you can also stage your bottles. We clean our bottles and refill them with the appropriate amount of water, then keep a container of formula handy for quick bottle mixing. This works out really well in our bedroom where our week-old son sleeps in the bassinet of his Pack 'n Play. It came with a shelf-like section that holds bottles, a sample size cannister of Similac, diapers, and wipes.
- Have older kids, especially preschoolers, who want to dress themselves but can't be left completely to their own devices? When you're folding clean clothes, fold outfits together. I place a folded top inside a matching pair of pants, shorts, or skort and place each outfit in my daughter's dresser drawers. She is allowed to choose her own socks and underclothes, and she can pick an outfit based on the weather, so she has plenty of freedom and options - but I know she'll still look "put together" if we're headed out somewhere.
- Another timesaver for clothing for all ages and sizes is to hang as much as you can. I learned this working in retail clothing shops years ago. Hanging clothes take way less to deal with than folded clothes (time yourself; see how long it takes you to stick a hanger in a dress!) and they take up lots less space as well.
Works for me!
