Product Recall: MULTIPLE Mattel Recalls

mattellogo.gifThis one is already all over the news, but if you're like me and don't watch the news because of all the gruesome gabbing going on, you'll want to click over and read all of these Mattel recalls.

Turns out Mattel has expanded upon the Polly Pocket recall, as well as issued other recalls due to toys with magnets that can be dislodged and end up in a child's throat.  On top of it all, another toy is being recalled due to the use of lead paint.

How exasperating!  My daughter has tons of Polly Pocket toys and a very few Barbie items; luckily for me I have to unpack the box that the Pollys are in anyway, so it'll be easy to keep an eye out for the recalled items if she has any of them.  The problem?  Mattel is offering a product voucher for the value of said items.  So you can't just get your money back, you have to select another Mattel product.  *sigh*  As one commenter on a news article about the matter remarked, that's not acceptable.  Furthermore, another person asked why we (the USA) are allowing such things to happen.  When will we see less outsourcing and better control over such issues?  Then again, if these products were manufactured in the USA, would the oversight actually be any better?  One wonders, one does.

Think on it yourselves, as you read over the following recall notices.  Then go check your child's toy box.  You can guess which box I'll be unpacking first tomorrow!

If I remember correctly the only Polly Pockets that are recalled are the ones with the magnets to hold clothes on. I had already heard about the young boy in WA state who died after he swallowed two of the magnets from Magnetix "toys". Hopefully Chatty doesn't have any of those!
