What are you doing this weekend, Workerettes? If you're in the Portland, OR, area and are in the OB/GYN or midwifery fields (or are considering either), the Gentle Birth World Congress might be worth visiting. It takes place from Thursday, 27 September until Sunday, 30 September. The free Baby Expo runs from Friday the 28th through the 30th.
The entire event takes place at the Oregon Convention Center. For those of you who require continuing ed credits for your field, here are the details from their site:
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and Global Maternal/Child Health Association. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and ACOG Cognate Credits: The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) designates this educational activity for a maximum of 28 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits or up to a maximum of 28 Category 1 ACOG Cognate Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
For those who wish to attend as parents, there's plenty of potential fun and great information available. Apparently there will be a baby wearing fashion show, lectures, film screenings, vendors/exhibitors, and lots more.
I'll be heading up to Seattle this Friday and passing through Portland on my way back south - if I'm making great time I may well pop in for the Baby Expo. I want to find a sling for my son and it seems like this would be the place to be this weekend! I'll let you know if I'm able to pop in. If you're able to attend the full Congress, please let me know what you think. It seems like an excellent resource for Workerettes in many fields of family/child/birthing issues!
(Certainly doesn't hurt my feelings that it's sponsored in part by two of my favorite parenting magazines, Mothering and KIWI!)
