Chrysler LLC, recently taken over by Cerberus Capital Management from DaimlerChrysler (NYSE: DAI), has announced a recall of close to 400,000 vehicles due to issues with their braking systems, as well as their door locks and latches.
The 269,000 vehicles affected by the braking issue are the 2006 and 2007 models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Commander, as well as the 2007 models of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro. Apparently a glitch in the system can cause a braking issue when one is driving uphill - about 20 reports of the problem, as well as one reported accident, have arrived so far.
Chrysler plans to send out recall notices, but if you own (or frequently drive) one of these vehicles, do it the easy way and get thee to the dealership. Chrysler will be doing the necessary repairs for free, of course.
(I have to admit I had a little chuckle when I first heard about this story, but not because of the recall itself. I happened to look to a sidebar on the website I was on and see a big banner ad for Chrysler's new powertrain warranty. Hmm. That would have been handy decades ago when my first car, a Chrysler LeBaron, crapped out!)
