Thursday Thirteen: Books & Magazines

Have you seen the Thursday Thirteen meme website yet?  It's a great, fun way to network with other folks from around the blogosphere.  People check in each week with a list of things ranging from favorite movies to commitments they've made.

I decided to join in the fray this week on Workerette.com in order to share some books and periodicals that I believe are useful to women at work - whether you work from home, run your own business, or have a corporate cubicle (or corner office!), there will be something here of use to you.  I've run through this list over the course of my career changes from retail management to publishing to writing.  Let me know what you try out or what has been a great resource for you too!

  1. PINK Magazine
  2. Entrepreneur
  3. Working Mother Magazine
  4. Become the CEO of You, Inc. by Susan Bulkeley Butler
  5. Money Magazine
  6. Any title by Zig Ziglar (Pick what suits your needs and life - Zig is an amazing motivator!)
  7. Any title by Tom Hopkins (Whether you need sales help or general motivation, Tom's another good guy to turn to.)
  8. Glamour (I know, it seems like a fashion/brain fluff mag; trust me, there are articles every month that make me THINK about current events and women's rights the world over.  I ignore most of the foo-foo fashion stuff, frankly!)
  9. Mothering (Even if you aren't a parent, you might want to check this out at the library.  Mothering's editors select articles that are pertinent to women's and children's issues every edition.)
  10. Brain, Child magazine (Same reason!)
  11. Lose Your Mummy Tummy (This is a great post-partum recovery book, of course, but it's also useful for women who had their kids years back and want to try to eliminate that "pooch" still.)
  12. How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie (This one was a college read for me - it's still useful for folks of all ages today.)
  13. Swim with the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive by Harvey Mackay  (Another classic, whether you're in the sales field or not!)
