I just received an e-newsletter from Betty Crocker with some fantastic ideas for getting together with gal pals and raising awareness, as well as possibly raising funds, for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The folks at Betty Crocker compiled a tasty pink menu as well as some neat ideas for things to do during your get-together. As they say on the site, if races aren't up your alley, there are plenty of other ways to help this cause - this is just the tip of the iceberg. They also have the prerequisite pink ribbon products for sale over in the Shop for The Cause section, of course.
One idea I didn't see mentioned for a Pink Party activity is to invite an OB/GYN or midwife in to speak to the group about breast cancer and to explain how to do breast self-exams. Better yet, here's an idea for you Workerettes in the medical field: ask your office manager, OB/GYN chief, or other decision maker in your practice to sponsor a Pink Party in the office! Just imagine how many patients you could reach and encourage this way. You may even have breast cancer survivors who would be willing to share their stories or who would find support by networking with other survivors seen in your office. Not to sound like Barbie, but there could be a lot of power in some pink.
