Let's welcome Workerette Lisa Barthuly for a Meet & Greet! Lisa is a woman entrepreneur who has chosen to create a home-based business that falls in line with her standards for green living and allows her entire family, including her homeschooled children, to participate. Talk about lots of life lessons right at hand!
Read on to meet Lisa and learn more about her company, Homestead Originals. She has a very special offer for those of you who are bloggers or who have websites, so make sure you read all the way through!
Please describe the business you operate or service(s) you provide to clients and customers.Homestead Originals, a family owned and operated home based business that handcrafts Soy & Beeswax candles, gifts, books, handmade wheat berry heating pads, heavenly soaps and more!
What was the inspiration or catalyst for the creation of your business?
To have a home based biz that the whole family could be involved in!
What steps did you follow to build your business? Are you still in the process of planning a new business?
Slow and steady, offer the highest quality & lots of prayer! We’re always building and planning, coming up with ideas.
Please tell us about the resources you've used thus far and would recommend to others (or steer them away from). Take a moment to share your educational background (both academic and work-based) and point out things that have helped or hindered you along the way from that education.
I’ve been in customer service, marketing and sales for years--that has been a huge blessing in the building of
What do you enjoy most about operating your business? What tasks would you perform even if it had nothing to do with the successful operation of your company?
Making candles…..and making candles!
What is the least enjoyable part of operating your business? Are there any tasks you'd gladly delegate to someone else, no matter what the price?
Formatting Enewsletters!
What's the worst advice you've been given with regard to building or operating your business? How about the best advice?
I’ll stick with the best advice part of the question….and that was a friend who reminded me –always put everything in prayer FIRST!
What challenges have you overcome during your endeavor? Please describe something that impacted you financially or intellectually and how you got past it.
Just getting going, the initial financial part of it—with very little to invest into the business. I’ve learned we can’t do it all at once; we are learning to build and add new products as we can.
What accomplishments are you most proud of during your career? Has your business or product won any awards, mentions in the press, garnered praise in reviews or by users, or helped someone overcome a challenge of their own? Tell us about it!
When folks write to say their families are enjoying our products—that’s great! We have our first EBook out now, and hearing feedback on how it’s blessing folks is encouraging!
Have you worked with a mentor who has led you far? Take a moment to recognize their contribution(s) and we'll all applaud with you! I’ve had a few friends who’ve been so helpful to me along this path—it’s great when we home based business folk band together to help each other! I love to support home-based, family businesses…rather than the faceless corporate giants.
Without spilling the beans, what is in the works for your business or product line for the rest of 2007? Where are you headed, and where do you hope to be by the end of the year? What about the coming years – anything exciting coming in 2008? Share your goals with us and tell us how you plan to achieve them.
I hope that we can continue to add to our product line, do more writing of E-Books, and just enjoy the journey!
Thanks for participating in this Meet & Greet interview, Lisa! Congratulations on your brand new e-book as well!
