Have you ever walked into a bank and had your money refused as not good enough because of how you earned it? Here in the US I think we'd be shocked to have such a thing happen - usually there's a bank or credit union on every corner trying to convince us to give them our money.
Their job description? Prostitute. Sex worker. Whatever you call it, I'm sure you can see where someone would say their earnings were not legitimate. But to not accept the money and allow the woman the opportunity to bring herself up out of a cycle of poverty and exploitation? That is just shameful, I say.
Thankfully the Sangini Women's Cooperative Bank is making a change and allowing women the opportunity to become a part of a banking system that will help them save whatever they can - one rupee at a time if necessary - to achieve their goals and build their dreams.
A shop, a home, a college education - these are the things money can buy. These are the things dreams are made of. Go read the article. I think you'll agree these women and the founders of the cooperative bank are truly movers and shakers - no matter how they earn their funds.
