Happy New Year, ladies!
I hope that the December holiday season treated you all well and that you and yours saw a safe and happy New Year's celebration. I'm sure you noticed I took a little bit of time off during the holidays - it feels great to have gotten a bit of a rest and an opportunity to try to recharge somewhat. What day is better than today to start as though we've got a clean slate, eh?
I don't know about you, but I often hesitate to create a list of New Year's resolutions. I used to take the time, but I quickly found that I made my list too long and my goals unattainable. I quit cold turkey for a few years, so to speak, but now I'm in the mindset that this time of year is perfect for renewal - personally and professionally - if I allow myself some time beforehand to analyze my life and work and start mulling things over. My "resolution" phase began on December 1st, with a planned "start date" of January 1st. I noticed that the concept isn't particularly original; my husband was on the very same page, though both of us had left the idea unspoken. (Proof positive that I must have a few brain cells leftover despite a hectic 2007, because he's a very smart fellow! *chuckle*)
During 2007 I did a lot of pruning of responsibilities on the work front, just as I was adding to them on the family front. If you're anything like me, it's easy to get in too deep and hard to get back out on dry land and catch your breath. The more I've thought about it, the more I've realized that I truly want Workerette.com to be a place you can visit for quick tips, handy information, and some ed-opp pieces to get you thinking about what's in the news in relation to women. We working women don't have to agree on everything, but we do need to keep each other informed and help enlighten each other when it comes to options and opportunities that may benefit someone. I figure if one career opportunity I post here gets someone a job, or if one Meet & Greet interview inspires just one of you, then I've done what I wanted to do!
This year you can expect more of the same on certain things: tips and tricks that may help you get organized, get involved (with your family, coworkers, or community), and get healthy. Those of you who are working moms (or may become working moms sometime in this new year!) will continue to see what's worked for me - and your questions will be so very welcome! If you're considering hanging out a shingle as an entrepreneur or you're a veteran woman in business with expertise to share, there's still plenty of room for you at our virtual watercooler.
What you'll see more of this year: Meet & Greet interviews (starting with the long-promised one from myself!), plenty of link love to other women's blogs, product and book reviews, and the usual fun smattering of tips, "survival" tricks, and links to contests, freebies, and budget helpers.
I've even got a few ideas up my sleeve (or would that be in my keyboard?) for the year for some little things that may interest you - and the return of certain key topics that women seem to be searching for and used to be able to find here.
Best of all, sometime soon we'll all see when post 1,000 will be up here on Workerette.com - and who the winner of the contest will turn out to be. (This post is number 970, in case you're curious!)
I'm looking forward to serving you here on Workerette.com for another year; please don't hesitate to leave me your links so I can check out your blog or website - and be sure to direct me and your sister Workerettes to any articles or items of interest as well! We're all unique gals, but one thing draws us together - we are women who work, on a variety of fronts and in a variety of fields - and we all have wisdom to share.
