Menu Plan Monday: 11 February 2008

Every Workerette knows how important it is to plan ahead and try to streamline things like grocery shopping, meal preparation, and kitchen storage in order to (hopefully!) add a few more minutes to the day. Hopefully with Menu Plan Monday you'll be able to get some ideas for things to put on your own future menus - or maybe you'll become inspired to streamline things around your own house with menu plans.  Remember, this isn't just for work-at-home moms like me!  You can be single with no kids, retired with your spouse, or working nights with both your kids and your parents to care for - planning ahead for your personal situation with a little bit of wiggle room for longer than expected shifts, school events, and business travel still puts you ahead of the game!

Here's what will be cooking in my kitchen this week:

  • Monday: Steak & Taco Chili
  • Tuesday: Steak & Scalloped Potatoes
  • Wednesday: Spaghetti
  • Thursday: Sandwiches
  • Friday: TBD
  • Saturday: TBD
  • Sunday: TBD

I know I don't usually have so many nights left unplanned, but in my efforts to use as much as possible in the pantry last week, I used up most of what I had on hand!  *chuckle*  As for why we're eating "steak" several nights in a row - it's what I *think* is steak.  I don't remember what it's actually called; top round, perhaps?  Anyway, my husband had the urge to barbecue meat last night instead of tackling the chili leftovers on the plan.  So we hit Costco and found some very good meat for a good price - and decided that instead of freezing the rest of it, we'll just use it up this week with our pantry items as sides.  Yum!  I think tonight I'll ask him to throw it on the grill and we'll use the taco chili as the side; for tomorrow I'll use on of the boxes of Hungry Jack potatoes I have in my "stash" (low price at the commissary plus a coupon - woohoo!) and we're good to go.  I plan to go through my cookbooks and make a list for my Saturday commissary trip, so that's why we'll be deciding on the last few days' meals later in the week.

What will you be dining on this week?  If you need more ideas, be sure to head over to OrgJunkie's blog and see what's cooking in other kitchens this week.
