Happy Saint Patrick's Day, Workerettes!
Will ye be wearin' the green today then?
Okay, I couldn't resist. You can imagine that I don't have the best brogue there is anyway. *chuckle* But the brisket's already in the slow cooker for today and ohhhh does it smell good! My husband chose regular beef brisket instead of corned beef, and he had a valid point. For those of you who haven't partaken of corned beef before, it can be an acquired taste - and not one elementary-aged kiddos take kindly too. *sigh* I do look forward to trying my hand at making homemade Irish soda bread, however.
Can you tell I've got a bit of Irish in me? Oops. Well, despite what some Americans believe, it's not all about green beer and parades, though those can be fun too. (Not the getting pinched in school if you're not wearing green!) So if you'd like to know a bit more about Saint Patrick - and the real reasons for Saint Patrick's Day - you can head over to ReligionFacts and get the lowdown. For instance, did you know that corned beef is actually a substitution for the original meat of the day? Go see if you can find what was originally eaten and why the change came about.
Ever been to New York? If so, you may have toured Saint Patrick's Cathedral. If you haven't, once you see their website, you'll want to! And if you'd like to learn more about just a few of the sacred places in Ireland herself, check out Mt. Croagh Patrick. Can you imagine making that pilgrimage barefoot? How spoiled 21st century Americans are with our consumer's paradise of $100+ tennis shoes!
And of course, we must end with a blessing:
