CONTEST: Disaster Preparedness Kits

I've got some GREAT news for Workerettes located in Southern California!  I have just been offered not one, not two, but THREE disaster preparedness kits to giveaway to moms looking to get their families better prepared for emergencies.

Sponsored by the state of California, the California Volunteers website is a resource set up to help families get ready, set, and prepped to go in case of evacuations, or to be prepared at home in the case of disasters that keep you stuck at home for a bit (like, oh, the week-long power outage at my house early this year).

Anyone can go into the website to get great information about being better prepared for what may come - but with the wildfires going on down near LA, I'm sure that being ready for anything is on a lot of Californians' minds right now.

Here's the skinny on entering to win one of these three kits:

The Rules:

  1. Because the sponsoring program is focused on helping SoCal mothers learn how to prepare, winners must reside in Southern California.  (That doesn't mean the rest of y'all shouldn't get ready for whatever can happen in YOUR state or country though!)
  2. You must provide an email address or blog address where I can locate you to notify you if you win and you must respond within ONE WEEK of notification that you've won.  If I do not receive a response from a winner within one week of notification, a new winner/winners will be drawn.

How to Enter:

Contestants may receive several entries in the drawing.  Here's how:

  1. Leave a comment on this blog post with your first name, email address (and/or blog address), and the SoCal county you live in.
  2. Post an entry on your own blog or website helping to spread the word about this contest and the California Volunteers program.  Link directly to this blog post so your readers can come here to enter.  Leave me a comment on this blog post with a direct link to your post about the contest for verification and your extra entry.
  3. Send an email about the contest to any SoCal friends and family you think would be interested in joining.  Use the subject line "CONTEST: Disaster Preparedness Kits" and CC me at melonie AT workerette DOT com (remove the extra spaces and insert appropriate symbols) for verification. I'll post an extra entry here for you.
  4. Download and fill out the disaster prep file from the California Volunteers website.  Leave a comment here on this post telling me what part of the file you found the most useful, or what you'd add to the program if you could.

This contest runs until 0900 PST on Friday, May 2nd, 2008.  The three winners will be chosen via a random number generator and notified via email by noon, Friday, May 2nd.

Spread the word - even if you aren't eligible due to your location, the information and checklists offered through such government programs can always be useful.  If you're prepared for the worst, you're automatically a winner!

It's me... surviving the smoke in Los Angeles County. Check out my blog for some interesting pictures of the Sierra Madre/Chantry Flat Fire! :)

I think I would have included neighbor contact information too--get the whole neighborhood in on your family plan. We care about them as our neighbors and they care about the kids. It'd make sense to have everyone on the same page.

It'd also help to have a space for ham radio call signs. Our Stake has a large network set up for emergencies.

(I've done everything except spam--I mean email my friends and family...Let me know if I'm missing anything!)

Third entry for Megan - link verified.

I'm in San Diego county.
