As you Workerettes know, I sure do love it when I can scout out a good deal. With the economy the way it is lately more folks are finally starting to get on the bandwagon of frugal living - and it never hurts to have an example or two to get you started on scoping out the groovy sales and coupons. That's why I decided to post my Super Savings Saturday picture here on Workerette.com instead of on my other blog, where I normally participate.
Here's the rundown of a purchase I made a few weeks back (yes, I'm only just getting a chance to share):
Here's what I bought:
- Two family packs of Luvs diapers (normally $15ish each)
- Two bottles of Suave body wash (original price: $1.87 each)
- Two bottles of Target mouthwash ($2.64 each)
- Two containers of Huggies Clean Team wipes ($2.59 each)
Here's how I saved:
- Mouthwash: by purchasing the store brand - which is equivalent to Listerine - I saved about $2.50 a bottle. Listerine is normally priced at over $5 per bottle at our local Target store. So for the price of ONE bottle of Listerine, I got TWO bottles of the Target product. (And we've been using it for a while, so I know it works just as well.)
- The Suave body wash was on sale for $1.67 a bottle, on certain scents. I knew I was almost out of body wash at home, and while I had coupons on other brands, they were still more even after a sale and coupon. I stuck with Suave and saved several dollars by not buying the "fancy" bottle brands - which were also smaller bottles, so less product for more money.
- The Clean Team wipes were regular price, but I had a coupon for $3 off the purchase of any two Clean Team products. That made my final price $2.18 for two containers of wipes, versus $5.18 for two. My daughter usually uses another brand, but I'll take what I can get for backstock in the linen closet!
- The Luvs diapers were the super triple dip: first of all, they were on sale for $13.99 a box. Then I had two Target-only coupons for $1.50 off a box of Luvs. AND I had two $1 manufacturer coupons as well. All told, I paid $11.49 per box, which normally covers us for a month a box. YES!!!
My final total, after tax, was $36.59 for everything you see in the picture above. I not only got some excellent deals, but was able to duplicate each purchase so I have extra in backstock. That, to me, is just as important as getting items on sale. The more I have in the pantry or linen closet, the less likely I am to have to rush out at the last minute and buy something full price when I realize I'm out.
If you'd like to get more ideas of how folks are saving money and making the most of sales, coupons, and shopping programs like those offered at Walgreens and CVS, be sure to pop by my Momma (and More) blog archives, as well as Crystal Paine's Money Saving Mom blog for Super Savings Saturday. Trust me: even if you don't have a major savings to share yourself, it's fun to see the deals others have gotten. Be sure to leave them lots of comments and encouragement.

Great Job Melonie!
I bet you had fun doing it too.
