Building Birthing Centers, One Dollar at a Time
bumi-sehat.jpgI received an activism alert from Mothering magazine today that really caught my eye.  The headline was "one million mothers raising one million dollars - one dollar at a time".  Sounds interesting, doesn't it?  It became more intriguing when I read the actual blurb, which explained the concept: one thousand women donating one dollar and passing along the information to all of the women they know, who do the same....well, you can see where that all leads.  But it's not a chain letter or a pyramid scheme, it's a campaign to raise a million dollars and build a birth center.  Here's the basic info I read:

If one thousand mothers donate one dollar and then each passes this story to all the mothers she knows, and these mothers donate one dollar, and pass this effort to all the mothers they know, we will reach a million mothers, raise a million dollars, and have built a birth clinic one mother at a time.

Please visit the website of Yayasan Bumi Sehat to find out how midwife Robin Lim is offering care to pregnant women in an area of the world with one of the highest maternal mortality rates. To make a one dollar donation, please visit this website: www.amillionmothers.com/donation.html.
This concept really resounds with me; "a Community Based and Sustainable Family Cooperative Health Care Model" sounded like something that would interest some of you Workerettes as well.

Please take a moment to learn more about the program and consider whether a donation, spreading the word, or both would be up your alley as well.  And if you'd like to promote a favorite charity or treasured cause of your own that assists women (not just mothers, either!), be sure to leave me a comment with a link to your organization so I can pop by the site for a visit and a potential mention here!
